What Reiki Is - The Healer - What Love Is - Happiness - Surrender -
Reiki is often enshrouded by mystique, though really it is a path routed in simplicity of being and absence of self. It is a path of awakening where the individual chooses to use their daily life as an opportunity to discover the True Nature of Reality, and therefore unlearn the conditioning of judgment and striving, and instead deepen their commitment to living as loving, compassionate individuals. This path is about surrendering, allowing a force greater than our little selves to steer the course of our lives, being without fear of not knowing what's coming next, or why, and living fully present in (as) this great miracle of life.
The Reiki practitioner becomes an open, empty vessel through
which life flows effortlessly.
Back to the very Beginning ....
Prior to creation or any notion of existence, Consciousness Simply Is residing
in Perfect Silent Stillness. Out of this Stillness emerges creative impulse,
where Consciousness manifests Itself in existence. Dual reality is born. There
is perfect balance. This duality is the fundamental experience of the human
condition. Everything is perceived through a process, is relative, and has its
polar opposite. Action and re-action are opposite and equal. Yes - No, Black
- White, Up - Down, Left - Right, Future - Past etc. In Eastern terms this is
known as Yin and Yang, the dance of opposites. This dance is fundamental to
all relationships. Relationship is the energy which flows between two or more
when they encounter one another.
To investigate this point of relationship where opposite meets opposite has been the quest of mystics since time immemorial. One of the great quests in Life is to learn about this movement which is relationship (both within oneself and with others), and master its challenges by finding the middle point where time and space cease to be, and Truth Is. This path is not to be found in the future, nor is it found in the past, it is Here and Now. Finally the truthful investigation into relationship will result in the realisation that we are simply One Consciousness manifest in the appearance of many. The place where all energy exists, and where all relationships are given life is, of course, Here in the Present.
All creation is comprised of energy vibrating at different rates, relating to one another in a myriad unique ways. For example the alchemical relationship between two molecules of hydrogen and one molecule of oxygen makes water. When the vibration of these molecules accelerates then they become vapour, when they slow down they become ice.
In human terms, when the rate of our vibration increases we are able to perceive our more subtle aspects, whereas when our vibration decreases we are primarily aware of our physical body alone. For example when we meditate or give Reiki then we are aware of the more spiritual dimensions of our psyche, whereas when we are anxious about where we are going to earn enough money to pay for the groceries and rent, then we are primarily concerned with the physical body's survival and comfort.
We are incarnate in a series of energy bodies simultaneously. To illustrate I offer this analogy. When Consciousness manifests as human life it is like white light being beamed through a prism. The light can be viewed as Consciousness, the prism as the creative impulse, and the colour spectrum as manifest reality. Now there are seven primary colours with infinite shades in between, and the white light is no longer seen. However this is merely a matter of perception. The white light has always contained all other colours though they remained unseen, in the same way the colours are always inherently white light.
Within the aura, physical, and subtle bodies we have what are commonly known as Chakras. These are the seven primary energy centres which are located at specific intervals along the spine. This is directly related to the analogy of the White Light and the colour spectrum, as you will presently see. The Chakras act as energetic data banks, storing, transmitting and receiving energy. This energy is known by various names in different traditions, such as Chi in China, Prana in India, Ki in Japan etc. We rely upon this energy to live. It is everywhere, and nourishes every level of the individual simultaneously. It is in the air we breathe, the fluid we drink, the food we eat, and in the smile of a loved one.
Remember this Life Force energy is the movement of creation, the dance of opposites. In its natural state this energy is absolutely pure and transparent, though when it is assimilated into our bodies it becomes coloured by our personality and is both distributed and expressed through the major energy centres or chakras. (For further information about this see the chakra section later in this booklet.)
When this Life force energy is routed directly through the Heart, or middle Chakra then it is perfectly pure, the thread which unifies all relationships to the world and others. This is Unconditional Love. Reiki is a pure transmission of this Universal Life Force channelled from Source through the Heart and hands. Nothing more, nothing less. Emanating or transmitting unconditional Love is not particular to Reiki practitioners of course, this is everyone's birthright. However not everyone can guarantee to give a transmission of this degree at any moment to anyone. This is where the grace of Reiki is revealed, for having received a Reiki Attunement you are able to do just this.
When one invokes the healing power of Reiki, it is guaranteed to be a pure
transmission of unconditional Love vibration. Regardless of how the practitioner
may feel, the energy is not effected by the current expression of the personality
nor any emotional charge that s/he may be harbouring. In the same way the practitioner
does not 'pick up' the condition of the recipient. Low vibration can only attach
itself to other low vibration, and therefore being of a high vibration unconditional
Love is its own protection. Healing with Reiki is a mutual process of giving
and receiving, for as a practitioner you are simultaneously receiving the benefits
of the treatment as the Reiki flows through you. Giving a Reiki treatment generally
energises both parties. As you allow the Love to pour through your channel,
you will also experience its healing effect.
The Healer
Whilst the quality of the Reiki passed is always pure, its tangible effect varies
considerably depending upon the recipients highest needs. Do not become attached
to results! The Reiki practitioner is not the healer, but a catalyst along with
the patient for the healing process to occur. The Reiki, or Love, is the healer.
The Reiki practitioner is not a trained diagnostic, but is instead trained in
Surrender. The Reiki itself is Intelligent, and goes where it is most needed
regardless of the practitioner, or recipients, perception. It is able to interface
all dimensions of Being, finding the very cause of disharmony. It is through
the compassion of the practitioner, and the willingness of the recipient to
open to their True Divine Self, that the threshold is set for a healing environment.
With surrender, acceptance and finally detachment, Love is allowed to flow freely
into the body, rebalancing maligned energetic discord, thus reinstating a state
of natural harmony, and wholeness of Being.
What Love Is
True Love has little to do with emotions. Love arises effortlessly when we begin
to see others as perfect expressions of themselves. Harmony exists when we allow
others to be themselves and we are in total acceptance of who and what we are.
We acknowledge that we are perfectly unique expressions of the very same Essential Self reflecting Reality back to itself in the ever changing play of life. By living in the understanding that we are perfect expressions of ourselves on a journey to realise our inherent non-separateness with 'others' it is no longer necessary to have others change (or heal) in order to make us feel happy and content.
Happiness
Happiness (and therefore true healing) emerges when we withdraw our resistance
to the way things are. We simply celebrate what already Is, and create a future
based on Love and respect for all sentient life. When we stop fighting the undesired
experience and open to it, allowing it to be the way it Is, we drop into an
ease of being, which is generally blissful regardless of outer circumstance.
We surrender our need to control, to be right, or wrong, to have things this
way or that, and relax into what Is.
Surrender
Surrender is Being with absence of effort, simply allowing and recognising that
Consciousness always and unconditionally rests in, and Is God. Surrender is
unconditionally enjoying existence without egoic effort. The one who is surrendered
lives without the burden of expectation. Hence the end of all suffering. We
make adjustments in ourselves. Everyone is doing their best with what they have,
and that is enough. Ultimately we have to accept that we know nothing.
Detachment
In this life, whether the Love you offer appears to be received or not is best
left as of little consequence. Act with intention, though remain perpetually
detached from any desired outcomes, thus remain established in True Happiness.
Let love be given freely without conditions attached to it. Love is Free. Recognise
it as such. Allow your life to reflect This, and you will truly Know the meaning
of liberated existence. To Love without conditions is to release the need to
control. Let Truth Be. Though 'you', the personality have thought yourself to
be in control, you never really have been. You are merely playing your part
in a preordained Divinely orchestrated movie. Smile you're on Candid Camera!
Equanimity
Be aware that if you approach a healing situation from the perspective of giving
your own energy to heal, or if you have an emotional agenda running, then you
may become depleted as a consequence. The art of Reiki is to act as a vessel
through which the energy flows, trusting that all will unfold for the highest
good. Being without an emotional investment whilst giving a treatment (ie attachment
to outcomes) is not always easy though this is the attitude to cultivate. Having
such an agenda will not adversely affect the quality of the energy, nor the
recipient, though you are likely to find your self feeling drained, and dissatisfied,
rather than having been bathed in a sea of tranquillity. Let the Reiki be the
Healer.
Surrender with Grace in acceptance of the Perfection That Is.
Release egoic perception, and Know Thy Self.
Seek not Love but Truth, for in the Final Realisation
Perfect Love Is recognised to Be the creative, unlimited
manifestation of Truth. It Is always and ever Present.
Let your life become a living testimony of Love in Animation.
So this is the nature of Reiki healing, it is non-attached, the exchange is unconditional and non-invasive. It is free from personal energy transference, as it is not tarnished by emotional agenda, and so the recipient will not pick up any static energy from the practitioner, nor will the practitioner become drained or pick up any of the patients process of dis-ease. Thus the process of healing through the use of Reiki is totally safe. ª
