| Enlightenment.... The Path to NowHere? \ |
In all traditions there is prolific reference to the great quest of the spiritual warrior, that of seeking and achieving the most elusive apogee, Enlightenment Itself. This is the search of ages, where one awakens to the quest for the realisation of eternity. Usually, due to some great catastrophe the hero is catalysed into action and engages a gruelling spiritual journey. This story is usually dripping with romantic imagery. It is rich with tales of heroic failure, courage and desperation, love and loss, integrity and betrayal, and of course most often, all ends well. It is human nature to engage in this beautiful and tragic story, and it does so willingly for the simple reason that it enjoys the excruciating, yet sweet agony of it all. Whether engaged consciously or otherwise it is a choice that is made. The individual defines itself by the sensory, emOT4onal, and mental information it receives from being in this world. Its existence appears to be qualified by the stimulation it receives. Despite the miraculous splendour of the sensual world, eventually the experience of suffering on this journey becomes so great that the lost individual is forced to take refuge. The real spiritual journey begins. Mostly deluded, the spiritual aspirant seeks after something that will satisfy, something other, something more, or something better. This seeking impulse projects an imaginary external form that will offer satisfaction when found. The Truth Is, it cannot be found, it cannot be lost. It is eternally Present. Understand that for every moment there is identification with seeking there is a denial of That which Is already Here. The whole obsession of acquisition is steering the consciousness away from this moment, where all is present. The very nOT4on that there is something other than This is delusion. This is It! Everything is contained within the Now. Eternity is comprised of an infinite number of Nows. The journey is not a means to an end, it is the end itself. There is no past, as there is no future.
You exist in totality here and now. History is a lie. The future is pure
fantasy. There is nothing outside of this moment. You have never existed
anywhere other than in this present moment. Every memory is experienced
from the present perspective, it is never experienced in the way that
it truly was. Aspiration has been an engaging pursuit, and for the most part has served well in reducing the suffering of self and others, though it has not given total satisfaction. It has carried you this far, however it can carry you no further. This spiritual journey is leading Nowhere (NowHere). What then are the implications of arriving at the realisation that you have been here all along? |
